Introduction to 2 Peter
The Second Epistle of Peter, commonly referred to as 2 Peter, is one of the books found in the New Testament of the Christian Bible.
Traditionally attributed to the Apostle Peter, this letter addresses early Christians facing challenges from false teachers and encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith.
The epistle emphasises the importance of knowledge, moral living, and preparedness for the return of Christ.
2 Peter is notable for its warnings about deceptive influences and its call to spiritual growth. It also contains a significant passage regarding the nature of scripture and prophecy, urging readers to rely on divine revelation rather than human interpretations. The letter invites readers to reflect deeply on their faith and to cultivate virtues that will enable them to persevere amidst trials.
Peter was in a Roman Jail , this was around 65 AD or about 5 years before the emoeror Nero invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the city.
Peter knew his time on earth was nearly over from he wanted to write one more letter to the believers he had left behind in Jerusalem.
He wanted to highlight again all he knew about the Lord Jesus and also about false teachers. Peter taks a little about the second coming of Christ , Jesus had not yet retuened, but will in a time known only to God the Father. .
Pter exhorts all believers to live lives glorifying God.
